Discussions about article writing have been centered mainly on how to write the body of the article and only a few mentioned the title, summary, and resource box. It’s probably high time that we focus our attention to these important parts of the article.
The Article Title
In creating your article title, your first objective is to grab your readers’ attention. However, that doesn’t mean you have to use outrageous or over-the-top words in your title just to get their attention. Readers tend to prefer titles that contain the words “Easy” or “Simple” than titles that have “Amazing”, “Miraculous”, and similar words. Words like “Easy” and “Simple” are more believable whereas the words “Amazing” and “Miraculous” sound like a TV salesman doing a hard sell.
Right after such words, describe what readers will expect to read in your article. If it’s a tutorial then you must have enumerated the steps involved in the body of your article. So then your title would be about “Easy Steps” or “Simple Steps”. You have to complete the description by telling the reader the exact essence of your article. Let’s say your article will teach them how to make web forms when building a website. Thus, your article’s title can be something like, “Easy Steps to Creating Web Forms”. If your main keyword is “web building”, you can modify your title so that it reads, “Web Building: Easy Steps to Creating Web Forms”.
However, the example title still lacks impact since the word “Easy” might be misleading. The most natural thing to do is to count how many steps it will take to give the readers an idea as to how easy it is. Revising the title, it now reads, “Web Building: 7 Easy Steps to Creating Web Forms”. So there now, you have a complete title that tells your readers exactly what they will find in your article.
The Article Summary
People sometimes get stumped when it come to writing the article summary. It is simply a short paragraph that makes use of about 50 words, which you should optimize. This is what will appear as the snippet on search results. The article summary is important for web searchers because it can help them decide at a glance if an article is worth checking or not. Keep your article summary between 3 and 5 sentences. Describe what the article is all about.
An example summary for your web form article can be something like this: “In web building, web forms are important tools you can use to build your mailing list and promote your business. This article will teach you how to create a web form in 7 easy steps. This article is accompanied by screenshots to walk you through the process step-by-step.”
The Article Resource Box
Readers who were fully satisfied with what you just taught them will be interested about other articles you have. Make a call for action by inviting them to your website through your resource box. Let them know that you have other how-to articles available on web building that they may find useful. Don’t forget to create as in-line link for your website’s name and at the same time invite them to subscribe to your mailing list if you have one if they wish to be informed about new how-to articles published on your website.
