In layman’s language Keyword density means the amount of times a keyword is mentioned in an article. Keyword density is usually expressed in percentage form. It is calculated by dividing the total word count by the number of times a keyword appears in the article. Almost all articles have a density ranging from 3% to 5%. Keyword density will be higher if keyword is mentioned more times in relation to the total word count and will be low if its mentioned less as compared to the total word count.

If you want to calculate Keyword density just follow the easy steps noted below:

The next question which comes to my mind does this keyword density really matters? Yes it does matters and makes a huge difference. Almost all well known search engines give a lot of importance to these keywords and their frequency. Keyword density is really important for any article to do well. Some of the tips mentioned below will help you to improvise your Keyword density:

  • It’s a good idea to include keywords into your titles. As these titles are generally shown in search results so it can be beneficial.
  • Another great idea would be to use keywords in ALT form to improvise your keyword density.
  • A useful tip would be to mention keywords in your page uniform resource locator. And also make sure your footer has the keywords in it.
  • While writing articles many writers avoid using the same word again and use a substitute for it to make the article look different for the reader. This however won’t help for getting a high ranking in any search engine. So the best option is to write sentences and try to include keywords. It’s perfectly ok to repeat as this will only get your website a better ranking.

Another thing to note in is that not at all try to add keywords in huge number. Just follow the right density. Too much is also bad as it can lead to grammatical mistakes. Make sure your keyword gels in with the article perfectly, they should not look odd.

Keyword density is really vital from SEO point of view. It plays an important role for increasing search engine ranking. The key is to use it in an ideal manner, not too much and not too less even. Just try and strike a balance.
